Ericsson-Worldwide Interview Process

I applied at Ericsson-Worldwide for the post of Software Engineer through my college. The process took just one day and I was interviewed at Ericsson-Worldwide. The hiring process had four rounds - one written, one group discussion, one technical and one HR interview.

Round 1 - Written Test
The written test comprised of three sections - quantitative, verbal and analytical. There were a total of 45 questions (15 questions each section) and the total time given was also 45 minutes. Thus we only had 1 minute available for 1 question which was short for the calculation. Thus we needed to find the answers fast and calculate faster. There was no negative marking which enhanced the competition and many candidates were excluded from the test.

Round 2 - Group Discussion Round
I had a basic idea about the group discussion round in my mind. However the topic they gave was totally unexpected. The topic was 'Reality show is a curse or a boon in a child's life?' We were given just 10 minutes to prepare for the topic and after that, the debate went on for about half an hour. Each student was allotted a time of about 5 minutes to speak in support or against it. The real surprise came after that. We were asked to speak again. Only this time, we had to contradict ourselves. Many candidates were excluded from the process after this round.

Round 3 - Technical Interview
Believe me or not, what happened before this round was just the beginning. This technical round was quite difficult. Thankfully, it lasted just an hour. The reason why it was difficult is that they asked questions from anywhere. They wanted to freak the candidate out with the randomness and the difficulty of questions. For pointers, many questions were based on data structures. About language, tell them frankly the language that you know and they will redirect their questions regarding that. You might be knowing just one language but you should be thorough in it. Some other topics on which questions were asked are: OS, Algorithm, DBMS and Compiler.

Round 4 - HR Interview
Your verbal skills will be tested in the HR round. If you thought that the HR round was just about the formalities and offer, you are wrong. You will be asked about your vision in future. You will be asked random questions about your family, state, politics, personal or whatever. You will be bombarded with questions and you will have to answer them. But yeah, the HR is a pretty lady and so I did not mind at all.

How to crack (get into) Ericsson-Worldwide Interview

If you have read the process till here, you will be having a picture of the entire process which will seem to be difficult. Yes, to crack the process, you will have to put in great efforts. They are looking for highly professional people and thus along with your knowledge, your vision or professionalism matters a lot.

I have not seen so much candidates excluded in the written test anywhere else. They clearly wanted to interview just the smartest of them all. Even the following group discussion round was pretty tough. Everything went on unexpected in the round. What matters most is your confidence. Many candidates lost it and thus were shown the doors out. You need to speak confidently and smartly if you want to go through this round.

In the technical round, you must answer truthfully when questioned about anything. Your choices will direct the following questions. If you lie to them, they will know and then you will simply be asked to leave after the interview. Whatever are your strong points, be thorough with them. The questions can come from any source, you have to be at least a bit familiar with everything even though you might not be good at that. You can't answer all the questions, it is designed to be that way. Just be truthful about that.

The HR interview is exciting and interesting. You won't know from where the questions can come but you can answer them straight and confidently. If you are looking for higher education, and you tell them so, they are likely to reject you. They want a loyal candidate that will work for them whole heartedly. So be aware of that.

No negotiation was done as it was a campus placement and the package was fixed.

Thanks Anmol for sharing the details of your interview.

Tough River Crossing Riddle

This one is a bit of tricky river crossing puzzle than you might have solved till now. We have a whole family out on a picnic on one side of the river. The family includes Mother and Father, two sons, two daughters, a maid and a dog. The bridge broke down and all they have is a boat that can take them towards the other side of the river. But there is a condition with the boat. It can hold just two persons at one time (count the dog as one person).

No it does not limit to that and there are other complications. The dog can’t be left without the maid or it will bite the family members. The father can’t be left with daughters without the mother and in the same manner, the mother can’t be left alone with the sons without the father. Also an adult is needed to drive the boat and it can’t drive by itself.

How will all of them reach the other side of the river?

Maths Magic Riddle

I can prove why 1 = 2

Step1. Lets say y = x
Step2. Multiply through by x xy = x2
Step3. Subtract y2 from each side xy - y2 = x2 - y2
Step4. Factor each side y(x-y) = (x+y)(x-y)
Step5. Divide both sides by (x-y) y = x+y
Step6. Divide both sides by y y/y = x/y + y/y
Step7. And so... 1 = x/y + 1
Step8. Since x=y, x/y = 1 1 = 1 + 1
Step9. And so... 1 = 2
