I am a word with eleven letters in me.
If you pick the first four letters, you will find a bank's name.
If you pick the next three letters (i.e. the fifth, sixth and seventh), you will find a car’s name.
If you pick the last four letters, you will find a mode of transport.
Adam is one of the finalist in an IQ championship. As the final test, he is provided with two hourglass. One of them can measure eleven minutes while the other one can measure thirteen minutes.
He is asked to measure exactly fifteen minutes using those two hourglasses. How will he do it ?
Fifteen minutes can easily be measure using these two hour glasses.
Step 1: He will start both the hourglass.
Step 2: The moment the eleven minute hourglass is empty, he will invert it.
Step 3: When the thirteen minutes hourglass is empty, he will invert the eleven minute hourglass.
In step 3, we will have counted thirteen minutes. Since we inverted the eleven minute hourglass in step 2, it started from fresh and was inverted just for two minutes (13-11=2). In this manner when it is reversed when the thirteen minute hourglass is finished, it will have two minutes of sand left. This time when the sand finishes, he will have measured fifteen minutes. (13+2=15)
A professor gives a set of three questions to the most brilliant students of his university. You can see the questions in the attached image if required. To his surprise, there are different answers by all three of them. Below are the answers by them:
Now you have the information that each one of them has given one answer wrong, can you find out the real answers to every problem?
Since each one of them gave one answer wrong, this means that each one of them gave two answers right.
Let us assume that Student A gave a wrong answer to the first question. This will mean that Student B also gave a wrong answer for the first. This will conclude that the rest of the two answers given by them are correct. However, the answers are different and thus it is not possible.
Thus both Student A and Student B must be right with the first question and the answer to the first is two.
If you keep applying the same logic, you will come to a conclusion that following are the correct answers:
There are three cars in a racing track. The track is made forming a perfect circle and is quite wide so that at one time, multiple cars can pass through it. The car which is leading is driving at 55 MPH and the slowest car is driving at 45 MPH. The car that is in middle of these two is driving in between the two speeds. For the time being you can say that the distance between the fastest car and the middle car is x miles and it is same between the middle car and the slowest car. Also, x is not equal to 0 or 1.
The car keeps running till the leading car catches up with the slowest car and then every car stops. Given the case, do you think that at any point, the distance between any two pairs will again become x miles?
In the question, the distance of x miles is given at a particular moment. The middle car is running at that time at 50 MPH. The distance will keep increasing with time as three are running at different speeds. It will increase by x miles every hour till a certain point of time and then it will start decreasing till the fastest car meets the slowest again.
As per question, all the cars stop then. Thus, the distance will never be x miles again.
One man was moving to and fro in worry when a bright woman noticed him. On asking he told her that while replacing his tire, he incidentally dropped all the four nuts into a deep drain. She told him what to do and he was then able to drive back successfully till his office.
A petri dish kept in a lab has a colony of healthy bacteria. Every bacterium divides itself into two in exactly two minutes. Now the colony started with a single cell at 2 pm. If the petri dish was exactly half full of bacteria at 3 pm, when will the dish become full of bacteria?
Since every bacterium divides into two in two minutes and we know the fact that the dish was half filled with bacteria at 3 pm, after exactly 2 minutes, all will divide into two and will fill the petri dish. Thus, the petri dish will become full at 3:02 pm.
Armed robbers invaded a bank. They were busy looting when suddenly a phone rang. The phone happened to be at the reception. One of the robber asked the receptionist to attend the call and talk without giving away the situation. The call happen to be from her mother. She spoke, 'Do you have any emergency mom? Can you give me a call when I get home, I could really use your help in buying new curtains?' Then she hangs up.
The robbers are busy when the police arrives suddenly along with the mother of the receptionist. How did she know about the robbery?
The receptionist was pretty clever she played with the mute button of the phone while talking with her mother. She muted everything except the word emergency, call and help. So while talking, she sounded like 'Emergency… Call… Help' to her mother and thus she called the police.
