A worker is to perform work for you for seven straight days. In return for his work, you will pay him 1/7th of a bar of gold per day. The worker requires a daily payment of 1/7th of the bar of gold. What and where are the fewest number of cuts to the bar of gold that will allow you to pay him 1/7th each day?
Day One: You make your first cut at the 1/7th mark and give that to the worker.
Day Two: You cut 2/7ths and pay that to the worker and receive the original 1/7th in change.
Day three: You give the worker the 1/7th you received as change on the previous day.
Day four: You give the worker 4/7ths and he returns his 1/7th cut and his 2/7th cut as change.
Day Five: You give the worker back the 1/7th cut of gold.
Day Six: You give the worker the 2/7th cut and receive the 1/7th cut back in change.
Day Seven: You pay the worker his final 1/7th.
For an ideal case, the batsman will hit a six on each ball. But if he hits six on the last ball of the over, the strike will change in the next over. Thus, the best he can do in the last ball is run 3 runs so that he retains the strike even in the next over. Thus the total runs that he can score in each over:
6 * 5 + 3 = 33
But this will have to go like it only till the 49th over. In the last over, he can hit a six in the last ball as well as that will be the last ball of the match.
Thus runs for the last over will be 6 * 6 = 36.
Hence the maximum runs = 33 * 49 + 36 = 1653
You are in a strange place which is guarded by two guards. One of the guard always say truth while other always lies. You don't know the identity of the two.You can ask only one question to go out from there.
What should you ask?
If you ask the guard who always tells the truth, he would tell you the other guard would point you to the door of death. If you ask the guard who always lies, he would tell you the opposite door of the truth-telling guard and point you to the door of death. In either case, both guards will point to the door of death so you should choose the other one.
There are two barber shop in a small town – one located in the eastern market and the other on the northern market. The shop in the eastern market is quite untidy and the barber has a shabby haircut. While the shop in the northern market is quite neat and clean and the barber is sporting an excellent haircut himself.
Which of the two shops will any foreign visitor opt for?
Anybody will prefer the shop in the eastern market for sure. There are two reasons for it:
Firstly, since there are only two barbers in the town, the one running the shop in eastern market must have gotten his hair done by the one running the shop in the northern market and vice versa. Thus, if the barber in the eastern market has a shabby haircut, it must be due to the incompatibility.
Secondly, the neat and clean shop can be due to the scarcity of customers as well. While the untidy place refers to the fact that so many customers get their hair done in that shop.
Thus any one will opt for the barber shop in the eastern market.
