Imagine a picture in your mind. There is a rose plant. A few roses have grown up in the plant. There are a few bees hovering over them.
Now read the given statements carefully:
1) If every one of the bees lands on a rose, one of them won't get a rose.
2) If two bees share rise together, then there will be one rose left without any bee.
Can you find out the number of roses on the plant and the number of bees?
First fill the 8 liters jug complete - 4, 8, 0
Fill the 5 liters jug with 8 liters jug - 4, 3, 5
Pour back the beer from 5 liters jug to 12 liters jug - 9, 3, 0
Pour the 3 liters from 8 liters jug to 5 liters jug - 9, 0, 3
Fill the 8 liters jug completely from 12 liters jug - 1, 8, 3
Fill the 5 liters jug from the 8 liters jug - 1, 6, 5
Pour the entire 5 liters jug back in 12 liters jug - 6, 6, 0
You have successfully split the beer into two equal parts.
The number of possibilities for the first as well as the second dice are 6 and 6 respectively. Therefore the total possibilities or outcome are 6 * 6 = 36.
Out of 36 outcomes, we need only one case i.e. the first gives 2 and the second gives 5.
Therefore, the probability will be 1 on 36 or 1/36.
In a guess game , five friends had to guess the exact numbers of balls in a box.
Friends guessed as 31 , 35, 39 , 49 , 37, but none of guess was right.The guesses were off by 1, 9, 5, 3, and 9 (in a random order).
Can you determine the number of balls in a box ?
You are stuck with the pirates who might even kill you on board. They give you a chance to survive. There are hundred black rocks and hundred red rocks. There are two empty sacks which are labelled as heads and tails respectively. You have to divide the rocks in two bags as per your wish. Then a fair coin will be flipped. If its heads, you will have to pick a rock on random from the sack labelled heads and if its tails, you will pick up from the tails sack. If you pick up a black rock, you will be freed and if you pick up a red rock, you will be killed.
How will you distribute the rocks so that your chances of survival are the best?
Four friends need to cross a dangerous bridge at night. Unfortunately, they have only one torch and the bridge is too dangerous to cross without one. The bridge is only strong enough to support two people at a time. Not all people take the same time to cross the bridge. Times for each person: 1 min, 2 mins, 7 mins and 10 mins. What is the shortest time needed for all four of them to cross the bridge?
The initial solution most people will think of is to use the fastest person as an usher to guide everyone across. How long would that take? 10 + 1 + 7 + 1 + 2 = 21 mins. Is that it? No. That would make this question too simple even as a warm up question.
Let’s brainstorm a little further. To reduce the amount of time, we should find a way for 10 and 7 to go together. If they cross together, then we need one of them to come back to get the others. That would not be ideal. How do we get around that? Maybe we can have 1 waiting on the other side to bring the torch back. Ahaa, we are getting closer. The fastest way to get 1 across and be back is to use 2 to usher 1 across. So let’s put all this together.
1 and 2 go cross
2 comes back
7 and 10 go across
1 comes back
1 and 2 go across (done)
Two world's famous prisoners 'Colditz' and 'Pascal' are locked in a cell.
They plan to escape from the cell.
They noticed there is an open window at 40 feet above the ground level.
Both of them tried very hard but are never able to reach there.
Then both of them decided to plan to escape by a tunnel and they start digging out.
After digging for just 5 days, Colditz and Pascal comes out with the much more easier plan than tunneling and they escaped.
A teacher is told that the principal of the school will be inspecting his class on the next day. Now, the teacher is worried for the impression that his class might cast on the principal since all the students are not intelligent. Also, the principal can ask questions from anywhere. However, he will have the power to choose any student for answering the question.
Now he wants that the principal must be impressed with the performance of his class. What will he do to maximize the final impression on the principal ?
The teacher will use a simple trick to form a perfect impression. He will ask all his students to raise their hands on each of the question that is asked. But the only catch will be that those who knows the answer correctly will raise their right hand and others will raise their left hand.
In this way, the principal will see all the hands being raised for each question even though all won't be knowing the correct answer. The teacher will ask only those who know the answer and they will always be correct. So the principal will be impressed to full extent.
